Sisterhood

Presently we are a group of 39 ladies but our numbers increase steadily.  Our newest members are Sharon Bekas, Myrna Bolstein, Harriet Blumenstock, Ester Captan, Rashe Farber, Sheila Kahn, Arlene Munkacsi and Iris Rabinowitz.

When Etz Chaim has a journal, we take an ad.  When our funds are sufficient, we make a donation to Etz Chaim.  With Sisterhood funds, I purchase a handsome book for every Bar & Bat Mitzvah and present it along with Etz Chaim's gift.  This is done through Amazon on our calendar.  For the past four years Lou and I have purchased pastries and juices for break-fast, setting up and cleaning up.  Prior to that, other presidents of Sisterhood did the same.  This has always been funded by Sisterhood.

We are a  social action group as well.  Last year we adopted  a wounded warrior and his family.  At Chanukah/Christmas time we purchased gifts for the warrior, his wife and children and a gift card to Applebee's which was his wish.  Last Chanukah each Sisterhood member purchased a gift for a woman or child who resided at a particular homeless shelter.  After the devastation of Irene in Monroe, we sent a check to help in the relief.

During the summers when Rabbi Ben was on vacation, and once during the winter when Rabbi was away, Sisterhood was asked to be responsible for a Sabbath.  Many Sisterhood members participated in the readings and brought a pot luck dish for all attendees at synagogue to enjoy.  It has always been successful.

The format is a Chavurah group asking Sisterhood members to each chair a meeting.
